AA bankruptcy plan approved

A U.S. court Thursday approved the bankruptcy plan of American Airlines’ parent, AMR, a key part of the proposed American-U.S. Airways merger deal, which is facing a government antitrust challenge.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane approved AMR’s plan to emerge from bankruptcy, in spite of the pending Department of Justice lawsuit.

The AMR bankruptcy reorganization, initially filed in November 2011, had been near completion when Justice filed suit in August to block the American-U.S. Airways merger.
