The new head of the Takarazuka Revue Company says he aims to lay the foundations for the musical theater troupe to continue to flourish long into the future, after the all-female company celebrated its 100th anniversary last year.

President Tomotsugu Ogawa, the 58-year-old former head of Umeda Arts Theater Co. in downtown Osaka, took over the reins of the Takarazuka Revue in Hyogo Prefecture in April, replacing Koichi Kobayashi, the great-grandson of Ichizo Kobayashi who founded Hankyu Corp., the major railway group that manages the troupe.

"I will make this year one that we can look back on in the future and say 'We are the ones who build the foundation'" for the next 100 years, Ogawa said.
