Manufacturing World Tokyo, Japan’s leading trade show for the industry, will be held at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba Prefecture from July 9 to 11. The event will showcase innovations and technologies across a broad spectrum of manufacturing sectors.

About 1,900 companies are set to exhibit products and services for sectors ranging from digital transformation and factory automation to additive manufacturing, mechanical components, measuring equipment and maintenance.

The annual event will also hold editions in Osaka, Fukuoka and Nagoya, offering exhibitors and visitors opportunities to draw inspiration from a diverse range of products and services, gain insights from Japan’s manufacturing leaders, learn about advanced solutions to raise productivity and network to make connections for future collaboration.

Celebrating its 35th year, Manufacturing World Tokyo attracted about 70,000 visitors last year. Many of the attendees were involved in the design, development, production engineering, purchasing and information systems divisions of global makers in the automotive, heavy industry, electrical, machinery and precision equipment sectors.

This Tokyo edition will feature 10 specialized exhibition categories, including design manufacturing solutions, mechanical components and technology, medical device development, factory facilities and equipment, measuring and testing solutions and sensors, industrial original design and electronics manufacturing services, as well as cybersecurity and smart maintenance — two categories that were added for this year.

The cybersecurity expo will showcase products and services designed to bolster security from the perspectives of end-point and network protection, information technology asset management, anti-spoofing and tampering. It will also cover a wide array of comprehensive security services, including consultation, diagnosis, incident response and training.

The other new category, smart maintenance, will feature advanced inspection and measurement equipment, including inspection robots, drones, nondestructive testing devices, laser scanners, infrared cameras, vibration meters, gas detectors, advanced sensors, pressure gauges, tachometers and environmental measuring instruments.

It will also offer parts and materials for repair and replenishment, such as high-performance replacement parts, environmentally friendly materials, insulating materials, special coatings and recycled parts. This category encompasses various IT solutions, such as maintenance management systems and software, monitoring systems, electronic reporting systems, abnormality detection algorithms, and asset and energy management software.

During the three-day event, as many as 150 conferences, seminars and presentations will be held on a multitude of topics. The Special Conference category will feature key figures from various manufacturing sectors. To bridge the language barrier, an artificial intelligence-based translation system will be available for some of these presentations, including one on “The latest technology trends and implementation examples of 3D printers.”

This session will be moderated by the CEO of UltiMaker, the world’s leading maker of fused filament fabrication 3D printers, and feature panelists from Dai-ichi Ceramo Co. and Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc. who will share their experiences and the benefits of this printing technology. A presentation by Nokia’s Head of ECE (Enterprise Campus Edge) Sales APAC Ray Tseng, titled “Factory DX by 5GxAI and L5G use cases” will be translated by an AI system. To use the translator, a visitor simply scans a QR code provided at the venue with a smartphone. The system offers 50 languages for both text and audio translation.
