Bunka Suginami Canadian International School offers a unique double-diploma opportunity to study in both the Japanese and Canadian curricula. We integrate the strengths of Canadian education — built on the rigorous British Columbia (BC) curriculum, recognized for top global student performance — with the foundations of Japanese education, promoting a distinct learning style. Student-centered methods like inquiry and project-based learning foster globally minded individuals who can thrive at home in Japan and internationally.

Students entering the Double-Diploma Program enroll in both schools simultaneously, receiving diplomas from both upon graduation and experiencing a rich blend of Japanese and Canadian high school life.

The curriculum pathway begins intensively in the first year of junior high school (Grade 7), where students dedicate 17 hours weekly to studying English, math and science within the Canadian curriculum. These classes are specifically designed to develop strong communication skills, critical and creative thinking, and personal reflection. Our committed teachers actively support student development through collaborative teaching and research-informed practices, enhanced by hosting University of Victoria student teachers each spring.

The success of this comprehensive preparation is evident in our graduates’ acceptance to leading postsecondary institutions globally. Destinations for the Class of 2025 include: Emily Carr University of Art and Design, National Taiwan University, the University of Amsterdam, the University of British Columbia, University College Dublin, the University of Sydney and the University of Toronto.

We welcome curious, motivated students ready to embrace their learning in pursuit of new ideas.
