Third-choice Vivlos stole the march for her first Grade 1 title Sunday at the Shuka-sho, the final leg of the Japanese fillies' triple crown.

The Yuichi Fukunaga-ridden Vivlos traveled behind midfield on the home turn before extending her stride from the outside in the stretch, cutting a winning time of 1 minute, 58.6 seconds at the 2,000-meter Kyoto Racecourse by half a length on fourth-choice Pearl Code.

Eighth-choice Kaiserball came third while favorite Biche settled for 10th.

"We made a good start and placed ourselves in such a good position along the way that we would have thrown our hands up had we lost," said Fukunaga. "I was chasing desperately at the end. She went up another gear."
