The Yomiuri Giants are negotiating to bring close to a deal with 22-year-old Cuban right fielder Jose Adolis Garcia, the Central League club's general manager confirmed Saturday.

Giants GM Tatsuyoshi Tsutsumi said that while Garcia had rejected an earlier offer, "it is true that we are negotiating with him."

On Thursday, Cuban baseball's official website reported commissioner Heriberto Suarez telling Cuban media on Thursday that a contract was imminent.

"The contract might be signed within the coming days," Suarez said.

Garcia, who plays right field for defending champion Ciego de Avila, in Cuba's Serie Nacional, is the brother of Atlanta Braves outfielder-third baseman Adonis Garcia and is considered one of the nation's top talents.

The Giants currently have Isla de la Juventud hurler Hector Mendoza on their roster.

The commissioner also announced that in two weeks there will be a Japanese delegation in Cuba, interested in attending the semifinals and finals of Cuba's National Series.
