Shinji Kagawa netted a brace and teenage compatriot Mitsuru Maruoka also found the net as Borussia Dortmund thrashed Kawasaki Frontale 6-0 on Tuesday in a friendly.

Starting in his familiar central attacking-midfield role, Kagawa opened the scoring at Todoroki Stadium in the fifth minute as he headed in an accurate cross from Polish right-back Lukasz Piszczek. The 26-year-old Japanese neatly slotted home his second after German forward Marco Reus pulled the ball back from the left inside the box on the 36th minute.

"We played in a brilliant atmosphere and put in a great performance," said Kagawa, who was replaced at the break. "It's rare for me to score a header, so hopefully I can do that more in league games."

Pacy Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came off the bench to score a second-half brace, before the 19-year-old Maruoka, who put in a full shift, grabbed the fifth with 11 minutes to go, latching onto a floated through-ball from Armenian Henrikh Mkhitaryan and steering past the goalkeeper.

Slovene Jon Gorenc Stankovic scored the last in the comprehensive win for Dortmund in its first preseason under Thomas Tuchel, who replaced Jurgen Klopp. Its first-ever Asian tour will see its visit Singapore and Malaysia this summer.
