First-year high school student Aiko Sugihara booked a spot in this year's world championships by winning the women's gymnastics title at the NHK Cup on Sunday, while five-time defending all-around world champion Kohei Uchimura won his seventh straight title.

The 15-year-old Sugihara scored 113.975 points at Tokyo's Yoyogi National Gymnasium to earn her first NHK title and her first trip to the worlds, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in October and November.

"It is like a dream," said the 142-cm youngster, who finished 12th a year ago, but was the only woman to clear 14 points on every apparatus.

She will be joined in Glasgow by runner-up Natsumi Sasada, the two-time defending champion, third-place finisher Asuka Teramoto, the national champion, Sakura Yumoto (fourth) and Yuki Uchiyama (fifth).

Uchimura, who had already qualified to compete in Glasgow, won with a score of 184.250 points. He will be joined by Yusuke Tanaka and Ryohei Kato, who finished second and third, respectively.
