Rookie Hayato Takagi pitched a two-hitter for his first career shutout, Yoshiyuki Kamei drove in a pair of runs and the Yomiuri Giants took the rubber against the rival Hanshin Tigers with a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Takagi (2-0) outdueled 21-year-old Tigers right-hander Shintaro Fujinami, striking out seven and walking two in a 116-pitch outing at Tokyo Dome. Fujinami (1-1) yielded three earned runs on five hits over eight innings of the loss.
"It hasn't sunk in but I think I was able to get the job done," said 25-year-old right-hander Takagi.
