Former Fukuoka Softbank Hawks manager Koji Akiyama's wife, Chiaki, has died, an informed source said Wednesday.
She was 55. The cause of death has not been released.
Akiyama, 52, led the Hawks to their first Japan Series championship in three years this past season. He announced his resignation during the postseason after the team had requested he remain at the helm.
