Dominant yokozuna Hakuho mowed down Aminishiki on Monday to stay on track for his fourth consecutive Emperor's Cup on the second day of action at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament.

Hakuho charged out the top-ranked maegashira (0-2) in a matter of seconds before tumbling off the dohyo at Fukuoka Kokusai Center, while fellow Mongolian yokozuna rivals Harumafuji and Kakuryu also scored second wins.

Another championship victory in the final basho of the year would see Hakuho match the all-time record of 32 career championships held by sumo legend Taiho.

Harumafuji, who missed 10 days of the last tournament with a fractured eye socket, was equally impressive as he forced out second-ranked Toyohibiki (0-2).

Kakuryu completed a winning day for yokozuna in the day's last bout, but he was made to work for his victory, surviving a couple of early scares before blasting out top-ranked Tochiozan (0-2).

In other key bouts, Fukuoka-born ozeki Kotoshogiku gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about as he shoved out Bulgarian sekiwake Aoiyama (1-1) to make it two wins from two.

Kisenosato also stayed perfect after chasing out komusubi Ikioi (0-2) but Goeido, who just about managed to scrape out an 8-7 mark on his ozeki debut in September, was yanked down by komusubi Takekaze (1-1) and dropped to 0-2.

At sumo's third-highest rank, newly promoted sekiwake Ichinojo got his first win when he swung second-ranked maegashira Takarafuji (1-1) around and out of the dohyo.
