The Takamatsu Five Arrows scored 28 fourth-quarter points — twice as many as the host Sendai 89ers — in an 82-70 victory on Thursday night in their bj-league series opener.
Paul Williams paced the Five Arrows with 19 points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots. Brandon Penn scored 16 points and sank 4 of 6 3-pointers, and teammate Dexter Lyons had 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Robert Johnson scored 14 points and Masaaki Suzuki had eight points and 10 assists.
Takamatsu trailed 66-54 entering the fourth quarter.
The 89ers shot 5-for-13 at the free-throw line.
T.J. Cummings led Sendai with 29 points and grabbed 10 boards. Yasuaki Arai scored 16 points, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, and Takehiko Shimura had nine points and four assists. Maurice Hargrow chipped in with eight points and six assists.
Sendai fell to 1-2 under acting head coach Takeo Mabashi, who replaced Bob Pierce last month, and 14-23 overall. Takamatsu improved to 16-23.
