Reigning world champion Kaori Matsumoto will sit out the upcoming Rio de Janeiro Glam Slam meet, citing damaged ligaments in her right knee, the All Japan Judo Federation said on Monday.

Matsumoto, who will aim to defend her second consecutive title in the women's 57-kg category at the world championships this August in Paris, will miss the Aug. 18-19 meet after hurting her knee in training on Friday.

According to a doctor who examined her on Monday, Matsumoto will require about four weeks to make a full recovery. Although she will continue to receive outpatient treatment, her injury should not present any problem for her to compete at this summer's worlds.
