International Olympic Committee executives put on a show of solidarity with the beleaguered organizers of the Tokyo 2020 Games on Thursday after arriving in Japan to check on preparations.

Tokyo's hosting of the 2020 Olympics was plunged into controversy earlier this month after French prosecutors launched an investigation into $2 million in payments made to a Singapore company linked to the son of disgraced former International Association of Athletics Federation chief Lamine Diack.

Tokyo 2020 bid team leader Tsunekazu Takeda admits making the payments to Black Tidings but claims they were above-board consultancy fees designed to secure the games for Tokyo.
