Japan and China are considering holding a ministerial-level economic meeting as early as this summer in Tokyo as part of efforts to improve bilateral relations, a government source said Monday.

It would be the first time that the Japan-China High-Level Economic Dialogue has been held since the last session in August 2010 in Beijing.

Japan hopes the ministerial talks will lead to a meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of a summit of the Group of 20 major developed and emerging economies slated for September in Hangzhou, eastern China, the source said.
