The Tokyo District Court has ordered Twitter Inc. to release the IP address of a computer user who tweeted a picture of a 1-year-old girl and falsely claimed that the girl died of heat exhaustion after being taken to a rally against the security bills.

The decision was handed down in response to a disclosure request from the girl's parents, a couple in their 30s in the city of Niigata, their lawyer said. The couple claimed that the user stole the photo after they posted it on their Twitter account.

It is rare for the IP address of someone falsely posting pictures as their own to be disclosed, said the plaintiffs' lawyer Yutaka Saito.
