Food manufacturer Kewpie Corp. said Friday it is voluntarily recalling 25,260 sets of pumpkin-and-orange spread for children that might contain pieces of rubber.

Subject to the recall are spreads that were made at a jam plant in Hiroshima Prefecture run by Kewpie subsidiary Aohata Corp. bearing expiration dates between May 19 and Nov. 4.

An employee at the plant found 0.5-mm pieces of rubber in the product on April 16. The rubber may have been attached to pumpkins used in the production process that were mashed into the spread, Kewpie said.

The company has not yet received any complaints about the product.

In the recall, Kewpie urges consumers to return the product to the company for a refund and says it will pay for delivery.
