American Airlines said Wednesday it will start code share flights with Jetstar Japan Co. on five routes in Japan from Narita International Airport on Sunday, a move aimed at increasing convenience for passengers to fly to and from regiional Japanese cities.

American will add its codes on Jetstar's flights to Sapporo, Osaka, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, Fukuoka and Naha, Okinawa, all from Narita airport near Tokyo, where American operates flights to and from Chicago, Dallas and Los Angeles.

Jetstar is owned in part by Japan Airlines Co., one of American's key partners in Asia.
