Yukio Fujimaki, a House of Councilors member from the new opposition party Yuinotoh, died Sunday of hemorrhagic shock at a Tokyo hospital, his party and relatives said. He was 54.

Fujimaki unsuccessfully ran as a proportional representation candidate in the 2010 election, but was awarded an Upper House seat in December 2012 after a winning candidate was ruled ineligible.

He left Your Party with other party members and launched Yuinotoh under Kenji Eda last December. However, he had been in the hospital since late that month for treatment of acute pancreatitis.
