Director Hayao Miyazaki on Saturday won the Annie Award for writing in an animated feature production for the screenplay to "Kaze Tachinu" ("The Wind Rises"), the organizer of the event, dubbed "the Academy Award for animation," said.

His film was also nominated for best animated feature, but the award went to Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Frozen."

Miyazaki's latest and last work is among the five nominees for the 2014 Academy Award for Animated Feature Film. The winner will be announced March 2.

Miyazaki announced his retirement in September last year.
