The body of a Japanese man has been found in a valley of a national park in Hualien in eastern Taiwan, according to local police.

The dead man has been identified as Masao Inaba, 62, the local police said.

The police said they have asked the Interchange Association, Japan's de facto embassy in Taiwan, to notify Inaba's family who are expected to arrive in Hsincheng in Hualien County on Monday.

A coroner will then determine the cause of death with the consent of his family, the police said.

The Hsincheng Police Department said it received a telephone call Saturday morning informing police of a man lying at the bottom of a valley in the Taroko Gorge National Park.

The police suspect the man may have fallen into the 100-meter deep valley while taking pictures from a cliff top.
