The Fukushima District Court acquitted a doctor Wednesday of charges that his actions caused a 29-year-old woman to die of blood loss during a Caesarean operation at a Fukushima Prefecture hospital in 2004.

Katsuhiko Kato, 40, was accused of detaching the woman's placenta, which had firmly adhered to her uterus, during the C-section at Ono Hospital in Okuma, Fukushima Prefecture, on Dec. 17, 2004, although he was aware his actions in the extremely rare case might cause severe bleeding, the prosecutors said.

Kato was arrested in February 2006 and charged the following month with professional negligence resulting in death.
