The Original Pancake House in Tokyo gets extra sweet for Valentine’s Day

Special To The Japan Times

Ah, mid-January, the perfect time for Valentine’s Day food campaigns to begin.

The Original Pancake House, with locations in Tokyo’s Harajuku and Kichijoji neighborhoods, offers up one of the more intriguing seasonal treats with its Dutch Choco pancake creation (¥1,340).

This variation of its fluffy Dutch Baby pancake loads up on gooey chocolate sauce and toasted marshmallows, making for a messy-yet-sweet eat. It’s also a substantial meal in itself — either skip lunch or bring a date to partake in this one.

The Original Pancake House in Kichijoji racially profiles customers, as confirmed by their business head, a Mr. Yuichiro Koumine, who defends the policy on the grounds that “customers from overseas” (by which he means anyone who does not look Japanese) have different preferences than “Japanese” customers. The Japan Times article should also mention that fact.
