Born in South Korea, artist Do Ho Suh moved to the United States to study at the Rhode Island School of Design and Yale University after achieving a BFA and MFA in Oriental Painting at Seoul National University.
His works often reflect an inner struggle within American society, ethnicity and culture and his identity as a member of a foreign minority group.
Suh's series titled "Fabric Architecture" uses semi-transparent textiles, such as silk, to create gateways and doors from his personal past, suggesting different boundaries and a transition from the private to the public. As those works are moved around the world and publicly displayed, the private and personal aspects of the pieces also gradually deteriorates; till March 17.
