So you've eaten Big Macs and Quarter Pounders for years, and you've even acquired a taste for the burgers Freshness and Mos. But answer this, would-be hamburger expert: Have you ever tried a Betsukai Jumbo Scallop Burger from Hokkaido? Or a Beef Stock Ramen Burger from Tottori Prefecture? How about a Tokushima Burger? Or a Kurashiki Burger?

If not, then this weekend is your chance to make amends. The annual Tottori Burger Festa, now in its third year, will be held on Oct. 8 and 9 at the Bakurouza Parking facility in the town of Daisen, Tottori Prefecture.

Aimed at promoting "locally based, self-reliant food economies," the festival will feature 40 burgers from local eateries spanning the length of the archipelago. All will be made fresh at the venue and will be available for sale.

Our advice for visitors: Skip breakfast.
