Tange's indispensable contacts
If you've ever had the opportunity to stay at the Park Hyatt Tokyo hotel in the Shinjuku Park Tower — I haven't, but I know someone who has — you'll know how looking down from the 52nd floor on the silent city from the hermetic calm of a guest room is mesmerizing. Sofia Coppola used this to good effect in the film "Lost in Translation," in which her character Charlotte has trouble giving up the safe and culturally neutral environment of the hotel for the confusion and unpredictability of the streets of Tokyo.

Toyo Ito literally connects architecture to the people
"For the past nine years, it's been a struggling journey — groping toward an unseen goal. It's a dog's life, but architects can find ways to improve it
What would our cities look like if they had been built with a different scale in mind? What if we considered building structures for creatures other than humans? "Architecture for Dogs" explores that idea with an exhibition of 13 architectural works made for specific canine breeds. After debuting at Design Miami in 2012, and traveling to the Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles, "Architecture for Dogs" is now showing at Toto's Gallery Ma in Aoyama, Tokyo, with a selection of new pieces created by the Hara Design Institute.

What's next for Toto? More toilet humor
What is the next logical toilet model for Toto? After one has invented a toilet that welcomes you by lifting it's lid automatically when you walk into the bathroom, cuddles you with a heated toilet seat, washes and dries your bum after you've done the dirty deed, disinfects the toilet, then automatically flushes and closes the lid — what next? What more would you want from a toilet? Nothing, I hope.
