'The Principles of Art by Genpei Akasegawa'
The Chiba City Museum of Art has accumulated more than 500 works by Genpei Akasegawa, who sadly passed away this week. A multidisciplinary artist whose oeuvre includes everything from illustration, comics and photography to conceptual art and novels, he has left behind a legacy of notable influence.

'Watercolorist: Tojiro Oshita'
As a writer, editor, presenter and designer, Tojiro Oshita (1870-1911) possessed many talents that contributed to and influenced his more famous work as a painter. He is often referred to as the father of Japanese watercolor painting, and his 1901 publication "Suisaiga no Shiori" ("A Guidebook to Watercolor Painting") became a seminal influence on young artists. His art magazine, "Midue," launched in 1905, is also still published today.

'Kawase Hasui'
Japanese painter Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) was a prominent artist of the shin-hanga (new prints) style. After studying ukiyo-e (woodblock prints) and nihonga (Japanese-style painting) under Kiyokata Kaburagi, he quickly became particularly well known for his skill at landscapes and scenic settings. This exhibition is a celebration of 130 years since Kawase's birth, and features more than 300 of Kawase's works, making it a comprehensive overview of one of the most prolific Japanese artists of the early 20th century.
