The International Paralympic Committee is encouraged by the Japanese government’s efforts amid the coronavirus pandemic to have spectators at the Tokyo Games next summer, a senior official of the organization of elite sports for disabled athletes said.
“In terms of what does it mean for athletes, I can only see benefits because our athletes love performing in front of crowds,” IPC director of media and communications Craig Spence said in an online interview on the occasion of a project review for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which were postponed for a year due to the pandemic.
