GENEVA – The Court of Arbitration for Sport said Friday it has reduced a suspension handed to swimmer Junya Koga for failed drug tests last year, but the 2009 world champion will still miss out on Olympic qualification.
The doping ban, shortened from four years to two following Koga’s appeal, is set to be lifted next May. The 31-year-old will not be able to compete at April’s national championships, which doubles as a qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Koga won the gold medal in the men’s 100-meter backstroke at the world championships in 2009.
