Rikuya Hoshino was among the late additions to the U.S. Open field, organizers said Monday.

The 22-year-old qualified for his first U.S. Open as he, along with three other alternates from sectional qualifying, were added to complete the 156-player field for the event, which starts on Thursday in Southampton, New York.

Hideki Matsuyama, who finished tied for second last year, Satoshi Kodaira and Shota Akiyoshi are the other Japanese entries. Akiyoshi punched his ticket by winning the Japan sectional on May 21 and will be making his major championship debut.

The U.S. Open is the second of four majors on the PGA Tour.
