Former Japan international defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka is close to joining J. League second-division club Kyoto Sanga, a source said on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old, who was let go by relegated J1 side Nagoya Grampus in November, has replied positively to Kyoto's offer and the deal is expected to be sealed within the coming days, according to the source.

Tulio left Nagoya before this season and returned to his native Brazil before he was asked to rejoin the struggling side in August. The 43-time capped defender narrowly failed to rescue the club from its first relegation.
