Three-time world champion Mao Asada struggled to a second-place finish in the Finlandia Trophy on Friday.

Mao, who was making her season debut, finished second in both the short and free skates for a total of 186.16 points.

Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond, who was third after the short program, won with a total score of 187.27.

Russia's Anna Pogorilaya (182.80) was third.

Mao was marked down for an edge violation on a triple lutz in the early stages of her program and under-rotated a triple flip toward the end.

"I feel that I have many issues to address," Mao said.
