Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters veteran right-hander Masaru Takeda announced his retirement on Friday.

Takeda, 38, had not pitched for the Fighters this season. A ceremony will be held Sept. 30 at Sapporo Dome, Nippon Ham's last game of the regular season against the Chiba Lotte Marines.

"I never thought I could come as far as I have," Takeda said. "I lost the desire to keep on playing."

Takeda joined the Fighters in 2006 through the university-corporate league draft. He posted double-digit wins for four straight seasons from 2009, and was the team's opening-day starter in 2013.

Takeda finishes his career with an 82-61 record and a 3.02 ERA. He also had one save.
