The Japan Football Association on Thursday donated over ¥30 million ($295,000) to Kumamoto Prefecture after it has been struck by two massive earthquakes in April, leaving about 50 dead.

Money from the JFA has been presented, along with donations from the Japan national team players and from a charity match in May between Japan's Under-23 team and Ghana.

"It's heartening to get cheered up when all the damage is weathering away," Kumamoto Gov. Ikuo Kabashima said as he received the list of the donations.

JFA president Kozo Tashima said, "It's from us in the soccer family and I hope it is used effectively."
