Japanese gold medalists at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics will receive a ¥5 million ($46,400) bonus, up ¥2 million from four years ago, the Japanese Olympic Committee announced on Tuesday.

Japan is targeting 14 gold medals in Rio.

The money for a silver and bronze will remain the same at ¥2 million and ¥1 million, respectively, said the JOC, which added that the sums will be increased again for the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

The JOC also said it will send about 330 athletes to Rio, coming close to the record 339 who were dispatched to Beijing in 2008.
