NEW YORK – Alex Rodriguez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the New York Yankees because of a strained right hamstring.
The injury occurred Tuesday night while Rodriguez was running out a grounder in the fifth inning of a loss to the Orioles.
Afterward, Rodriguez said “it wasn’t a big pop” and expressed hope that he could avoid the disabled list.
Instead, A-Rod hit the DL on Wednesday for the seventh time in the last nine seasons. His previous trip to the disabled list occurred in 2013, with a hip injury that needed surgery.
The 40-year-old is batting .194 in 20 games. Three of his five homer came in his last five games. He 12 RBIs, including four Sunday night against Boston.
New York recalled left-hander James Pazoa from Triple-A Scranton/Wiles Barre.
