The Japan Wrestling Federation on Friday selected Rio Watari to compete in the women's 75-kg division at this summer's Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Watari had been the leading candidate for selection after winning at an Asian Olympic qualifier in Kazakhstan earlier this month.

"Winning the gold medal is my main target. I want to bring the gold home from Rio," said Watari, who had moved up from 63 kg in order to appear at the Olympics.

Watari joins the field in the six women's weight categories for Rio. Saori Yoshida, who will be gunning for a fourth straight Olympic title at 53 kg, and Kaori Icho (58 kg) have already been picked.
