Uwasawa sidelined 8 weeks following elbow surgery

Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters right-hander Naoyuki Uwasawa has undergone right elbow surgery and will be out for eight weeks, the team said Wednesday.

The 22-year-old pitcher had arthroscopic surgery to deal with trouble from elbow synovial fold syndrome and will leave the hospital in a few days.

Uwasawa was 8-8 with a 3.19 ERA in 2014 before posting a 5-6 record last season with a 4.18 ERA in 13 games.
