Japan's Under-22 soccer team drew 0-0 with Yemen in a friendly on Thursday as it stepped up preparations for the Under-23 Asian Championships next month in Qatar, qualifiers for the next summer's Olympic Games.

Daichi Kamata had two decent efforts saved in a dominant first half and substitute Onaiwu Ado could not convert his 68th minute header as Japan's lack of finishing touch was exposed.

"Not losing is the least we can take out of the game, we have to win these games strongly," said manager Makoto Teguramori, who now prepares his team for another friendly on Sunday against Uzbekistan.

Japan will face Saudi Arabia, North Korea and Thailand in the group stage in Qatar. The tournament's top three teams will qualify for The 2016 Rio Olympics.
