Naoki Maeda struck a late equalizer to earn Matsumoto Yamaga a point in a 2-2 draw against fellow strugglers Montedio Yamagata in the J. League first division on Wednesday.

Matsumoto took the lead after seven minutes when Yuzo Iwakami drove home a through ball from new signing Kim Bo-kyung, but Diego leveled from the penalty spot and Kim Byeom-yong put Yamagata ahead with a superb strike in the 83rd minute.

But Maeda ensured Matsumoto took a share of the spoils when he took a pass from Hayuma Tanaka and beat Norihiro Yamagishi with a left-footed effort four minutes from time.

Yamagata, which came back up to the top flight via the playoffs this season, remain at the bottom of the second stage and overall standings.

Playing their first season in the top flight, Matsumoto moved up to 15th in the second-stage table but are third from bottom overall.
