ACAPULCO, MEXICO – World No. 5 Kei Nishikori of Japan defeated Alejandro Gonzalez of Colombia in straight sets in the first round of the Mexico Open on Tuesday.
Nishikori, who is the top seed and seeking his second straight title on the ATP World Tour, triumphed 6-3, 7-5 against the 92nd-ranked Gonzalez. He converted 4 of 11 break points to finish off his opponent in a little under 90 minutes.
