Yokozuna Hakuho pounced on rising star Endo to retain his perfect mark as he continued his march toward taking sole ownership of the all-time record at the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament on Friday.
But yokozuna Kakuryu fell on his own sword in a weak display against Tochiozan as the yokozuna dropped to a second defeat at the 15-day competition.
Hakuho (6-0) remains tied for the lead along with rival yokozuna Harumafuji, who took a little over a minute to drive out Toyonoshima (3-3).
