Five-time men's all-round world gymnastics champion Kohei Uchimura wrapped up this year's worlds on Sunday with a silver medal in the horizontal bar.

Uchimura's 16th career medal at the worlds saw him surpass Eizo Kenmotsu as Japan's all-time world championship medal winner. Uchimura has won seven gold medals, five silver and four bronze. Kenmotsu had seven gold, five silver and three bronze.

"It doesn't feel like I've actually won that many," Uchimura said. "I'm glad I could compete every day without making a mistake. I went into the competition without preparation and succeeded."

Uchimura scored 15.725 to finish second in the apparatus final to Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands, whose 16.225 allowed him to win his second-straight horizontal bar championship.

Ryohei Kato also earned a bronze medal in the parallel bars with a score of 15.666. Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine won his first gold medal on the apparatus with 16.125 points, while Danell Leyva of the United States was second.

Japan's men finished the competition with one gold medal, three silver and two bronze. The women's team did not win a medal.
