Japanese swimmer Kosuke Hagino topped an outstanding Asian Games by being named the most valuable athlete of the competition on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Hagino won a medal in all seven races he entered, capturing four golds, one silver and two bronze during the games, which was scheduled to end later Saturday.

He was selected by almost 1,600 journalists covering the Sept. 19-Oct. 4 competition from among eight finalists.

"It's an absolute honor to receive this award," Hagino said, just hours after returning to Incheon for the award announcement. "Before the games, I never imagined I'd win it."
