Hat tricks by Yuika Sugasawa and Mizuho Sakaguchi fueled the Japan women's soccer team to a 12-0 victory over Jordan at the Asian Games on Thursday.

Nahomi Kawasumi and Chinatsu Kira each bagged a brace for Norio Sasaki's world and Asian champions, who also saw captain Aya Miyama register on the scoresheet.

Japan, with four points from two games after outshooting hapless Jordan 30-1, leads Group B on goal difference over China, which thumped Taiwan 4-0.

"Because things will come down to goal difference, we were prepared to go all out for 90 minutes," Sasaki said. "In fact, we wanted to play at a faster tempo than usual. And we worked in hard in front of goal, which is what led to the result."

Japan faces Taiwan on Monday.
