Nakamura ties Mejia for home runs as Lions beat Marines

Kyodo

Takeya Nakamura hit his 30th home run of the season to tie teammate Ernesto Mejia for the Pacific League lead in the Seibu Lions’ rain-shortened 7-0 victory over the Chiba Lotte Marines on Monday.

Nakamura blasted a solo shot off Marines starter Takahiro Fujioka (6-10) in the first inning, when the Lions pulled away to a 3-0 lead.

The game at QVC Marine Field was called with one out in the top of the seventh.

“(Hitting 30 home runs) isn’t a goal for me,” said Nakamura, who reached the 30-homer plateau for the first time in three years. “I’ve hit 40 before.”

Takayuki Kishi (11-4) earned his 11th win with six shutout innings. He allowed just three hits and two walks.

Lotte has not scored in three straight games, a tie for the club worst. Fujioka was a shambles, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and five walks in 6⅓ innings.

Eagles 5, Buffaloes 4

At Kobo Stadium Miyagi, Kazuo Matsui hit a game-winning two-run off Orix closer Yoshihisa Hirano (1-3) in the ninth as Tohoku Rakuten walked off to its third straight victory.
