Yukiko Ueno hurled a no-hitter on Friday to lead defending champion Japan to a 4-0 win over China in their Group A opener at the International Softball Federation's Women's World Championship.

The 32-year-old Ueno, who helped pitch Japan to the last Olympic gold medal in the sport in 2008, walked one batter and struck out eight.

"I'm not where I want to be yet," she said. "It's a long tournament and you want to be at your best in the final round."
