The Chicago Cubs placed right-hander Kyuji Fujikawa on the disabled list as they set their Opening Day 25-man roster on Sunday.

Fujikawa, who underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last June, was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21. He has recovered well enough to practice in the bullpen at spring training and, all going well, is expected to return to action this summer.

The former Hanshin Tigers closer signed a two-year contract worth $9.5 million with the Cubs in December 2012.
