Noriaki Kasai narrowly missed a podium finish in fourth place in the individual large hill event at a World Cup event on Sunday.

The 41-year-old Kasai, who took the silver medal in the men's individual large hill and a team bronze at the Sochi Olympics last month, had jumps of 125 and 127 meters in gusty conditions for a total of 244.1 points on the K-120 hill.

Germany's Severin Freund won his fourth title of the season — his eighth overall — with efforts of 132 and 130.5 meters for a tally of 265.4. Anders Bardal of Norway finished runnerup to follow his triumph in Friday's meet.

Sochi double gold medalist Kamil Stoch of Poland pipped Kasai into third by 1.3 points. Kasai has been coping with pain in his right knee.

"I haven't made any mistakes since after the Olympic large hill (where he took silver). I have been extremely solid. There hasn't been any fatigue," said Kasai.
