Takanashi gets 10th win of season

Kyodo

Sara Takanashi is headed for the Olympic Games on a high note after snatching a come-from-behind win for the second straight day for her 10th World Cup victory of the season in women’s ski jumping on Sunday.

Takanashi placed second with an 88.5-meter effort before nailing the day’s longest leap of 92.5 meters in her second attempt to finish with 245.2 points, 6.8 ahead of first-round leader Daniela Iraschko-Stolz of Austria. Julia Kykkaenen of Finland came third with 234.8.

“I leaned forward too much in the air in my first jump, but it’s good that I eventually had a good one that gave me a confidence boost going into the Olympics,” Takanashi said after her last competition before the Sochi Games.

Sunday’s results saw Takanashi set a record for the most wins in a single season on the World Cup circuit in women’s ski jumping, which will make its Olympic debut this month. The 17-year-old from Hokkaido has had 19 World Cup victories in her career and podium finishes in all 13 events this winter.
